This assessment examines your ability to stabilize your scapula during pushing movements. Stability through your scapula is an important part of shoulder health, and any issues identified should be considered while creating your exercise program.

Shoulder Push Protocol

Purpose

Detect observable muscular deviations related to overactive and underactive skeletal muscle.

Equipment

None

Procedure

  • Begin by instructing the subject to lie prone on the ground with shoulders abducted and elbows flexed in a push-up position.
  • Instruct the participant to perform push ups until elbows are fully extended before returning to the floor.
  • Carefully observe scapular movement specific to the bottom and top of the movement for scapular protraction.
  • Observe the pressing movement and record and hyperextension of the lumbar spine.
